A lot of people have a wrong first impression of Hanzel Und Gretyl myself included, I also thought they came from Germany when their 2008 album 2012: Zwanzig Zwölf came under my attention. So, if this is your first acquaintance with Hanzel Und Gretyl, they’re not from Germany but from Brooklyn, New York in the US.
Satanik Germanik is the latest full-length album from this duo and it’s their eight full-length album up to date. The duo, existing of Kaizer Von Loopy (guitar, vocals, programming) and Vas Kallas (vocals and bass) are going strong since 1993 in the metal industrial field. Their 2014 album Black Forest Metal showed a more metal approach of the industrial and on Satanik Germanik that line is continued but a lot more darkness is added. The album is filled with mid-tempo tunes with a solid and heavy sound, pounding bass, crushing guitar and evil vocals.
The whole mood on Satanik Germanik is one of evilness and destruction and yet also one of fun. The album is a pleasant listening and Hanzel Und Gretyl have a good sense of humor, they don’t take things too seriously and mess around, having fun as a band but stand before you as a tight sounding band. Yes, they have fun but are 100% professional artists and that makes Satanik Germanik such a good album and their best to date.
