Formed in 1982 and Blacklace was active until 1987 when three of the four members went on to form a new band called Damn Cheetah with a male singer. Blacklace was founded in New York by Carlo and Anthony Fragnito and were shortly after that joined by MaryAnn Scandiffio on vocals. In the early days, the drummer was changed for Steve Werner who played on all their albums.
Their first demo On the Attack from 1983 got them a deal with record label Mausoleum and the debut album Unlaced was released in 1984. The album gained them quite some success, Unlaced was co-produced by Ross the Boss from Manowar and Blacklace went on tour with Manowar, Zebra, and Twisted Sister.
Unlaced was especially in Europe a success and it successor Get It While It’s Hot was released in 1985. The surprising thing on this album was that Anthony also sings on this album.
Things started to turn after this for the band, their record label went broke and besides a new demo in 1985 simply called demo #2 and an appearance on the compilation Metal over America nothing was released. In 1987 the band split-up and the three male members went on to form Damn Cheetah, a name that was inspired by the Blacklace song Damn Cheater. They also re-recorded that song with male vocals.
MaryAnn recorded in 1985 some vocals for the band Thrasher, an all-star project at that time. Also Bang Gang, another project/band which involved Kiss keyboard player Gordon G. G. Gebert and even Ace Frehley got involved as he did some backing vocals on a solo demo from Maryann in 1990 and produced the demo.
In 2004 Blacklace re-united with the four original members and plans for a new album were made according to the rumors but it never got this far, unfortunately.
