There was a time that things were looking bad for Witch Mountain as their voice Uta Plotkin suddenly left the band, I can’t believe that’s already four years ago. But Witch Mountain did the one thing that a band should do, look for a new voice.
And already within a few months, Kayla Dixon was found. In 2016 Witch Mountain released the Burn You Down single so everyone had the change to get to know the new voice from Witch Mountain. Another single, Midnight, was released in 2017 and now finally the full-length is here.
While listening to the self-titled album I realize that it sounds like nothing changed, that this is the Witch Mountain that was already there for a long time. It sounds warm, cozy, familiar and yet fresh, new and better than previous albums. That’s quite an accomplishment if you ask me for a band with a new vocalist. The bluesy, somewhat traditional, doom metal flows nicely, feels right and is comfortable except for the few devilish screams Kayla throws out of her lungs.
All in all, Witch Mountain started over, didn’t forget their history and came back stronger than ever. And hopefully with many years to come.
