This all-female melodic death metal band from USA and France accomplished with their debut album Resurgence from Oblivion almost the impossible. The distance between the band members, the language barriers, and their different musical tastes are usually not the right ingredients for a good album.
Resurgence from Oblivion is completely self-made, recorded in home studios in both countries, the artwork is done by Emily Moss who is also responsible for the melodic vocals, the bass, drums, and screams are done by Stephanie Nolf and guitar by Amy Zion who did also the songwriting, can it be more DIY?
For a DIY release Resurgence from Oblivion came out pretty good, good and clean sound, a good blend of the clean vocals and screams and songs that have a really nice flow to it. Every now and then orchestra parts are woven into the music and I would like to especially mention the song Tornado of Devastation where the orchestra parts have a really cool follow up by the vocals from Emily.
It would be interesting to see a follow up to Resurgence from Oblivion with a little more heavy bits, the music on Resurgence from Oblivion could use that sometimes I think, now the melodic parts are sometimes close to symphonic. Nothing wrong with that of course but I think that it would make the music from Ashes Arise even more interesting.
Ashes Arise have my support, I love these DIY releases and the band’s attitude to make it work even though they live in different countries.
