Sometimes life gives you gold instead of black. Post-black metallers Trautonist from Germany is one of those occasions that life shows it’s good intentions for you. With Ember, the second full-length from Trautonist is a fact.
The people at Wolves and Vibrancy Records, also from Germany, have a good ear for interessting bands as their roster is filled with bands that are worth checking out. Trautonist is no exception to that and with Ember the duo recorded something that isn’t genre changing but does that what the term post-black metal is all about, taking things further without losing the soul of it.
The ghostly vocals from Katherina are filled with atmosphere and Trautonist chose to put them low in the mix what contributes to the whole mood on Ember. The same goes for the screaming vocals from Dennis who’s also responsible for all instruments. The dreamy and repetitive moods are sometimes interrupted by explosions in the truest black metal way and that keeps Ember sticking in your head, the balance between the shoegaze and explosive interruptions feels right and never out of place.
Nowadays the band is a threesome as Hendrik plays the drums now so that Trautonist is able to play live, count me in when they are in my neighborhood.
