Sunday evening around 22:00, I decide to give Omit’s new album a spin. First thing I notice is that there are only three songs on Spotify. Didn’t Omit uploaded the whole album I ask myself before I noticed the length of the songs.
Yeah, funeral doom is known for its lengthy songs but what Omit separates from other funeral doom acts is Cecilie Langlie and her heavenly voice. While most slow acts use deep growls Cecilie sounds more like an angel than a devil. My first acquaintance with her was when I heard the song Duett from the mighty Akelei where Cecilie did a duet with Misha from Akelei. One year later Repose, the debut album from Omit, was released and for me, it was one of the best albums in 2011. Strangely enough, I completely missed the 2014 album Medusa Truth, Pt. 1 but luckily I noticed part 2 of Medusa Truth that’s been released a few days ago.
As said before, three songs and the lengths from the songs differ quite a lot from each other, opening song Passage is over 23 minutes, the short Veil of Isis still last longer than 8 minutes and finally Medusa Truth is over 30 minutes. So more than one hour of the saddest, sorrowful and most beautiful unusual progressive funeral doom you probably will ever hear. Enjoy!
