Glitter and Spit is the debut album for the London based duo existing out of Kirsty Lowrey and Sara Leigh Shaw with Kirsty on lead vocals, guitar and Sara on drums, samples and backing vocals. With just the two of them they are able to produce some nitty-gritty music with a certain punk vibe onto it. The both of them are clearly influenced by 70s rock and funk and took this sound and modernized it with strong female rock vocals.
With twelve songs and a running time for about 41 minutes Glitter and Spit wastes no time, every song catches you with a hook and the chorus makes sure it stays in your head while the next song is already presenting itself to you. The duo knows how to write songs and have a good feeling for commercial sounding blues rock songs but no worries, Glitter and Spit isn’t that radio friendly. I think the album title is perfectly chosen to present their debut album, it has glitter but it’s also loud and obnoxious.
The Pearl Harts started working together around 2012 so there was enough time to craft Glitter and Spit but I tend to think they have more up their sleeves and that the follow up album will be filled with even more charismatic songs that easily have potential to become indie-hits. My suggestion for their first hit from Glitter and Spit would be Hit the Bottle with the heavy distorted guitar, colossal drums and the gritty raw vocals, it’s easily an indie-dance floor filler and can stand firmly next to any L7 song.
