I can’t help it, I’m having a shitload of fun with this self-titled album from Swedish Thundermother. The self-titled album is their third album and guitarist Filippa Nassil is the only remaining member from the first two albums, she’s now joined by Guernica Mancini on vocals, Sara Pettersson on bass and Emlee Johansson on drums.
Guernica’s voice reminds me immediately of Anouk, the Dutch icon. Not meaning this disrespectfully, Guernica has the same tone of voice like Anouk. She takes the songs on this album to a whole other level, the AC/DC-ish rock/metal sounds perhaps a bit simplistic at a first listen, but do NOT mistake the intelligent songwriting here. The songs are written to give the listener pleasure and pleasure is what you get, just remember why you like AC/DC songs when you hear them on the radio. Thundermother is on this same level, it’s recognizable and just plain fun and with Guernica Thundermother have a singer that fits perfectly with the rock ‘n roll from Thundermother. She has a strong and fierce voice and is able to sound delicate in a song such as Fire in the Rain, the ballad on the album.
With it’s current line-up Thundermother is ready for the next step, World domination!
