There’s no reason for denying it, Frozen Crown is already hammering their way into the hall of fame with only two songs out there. The debut full-lenght will be released this month via Scarlet Records, 10 tracks of melodic power metal and the case is that the entire album contains the same level from start to finish with the biggest strength being the vocals from Giada. Her voice has a natural way of carrying melodies but she can also deliver power when the music gets heavier. I asked her a few questions.
Your album shall be released soon, were there any memorable moments during the recording of the album?
Of course! I remember we had a lot of fun towards the end of the recordings. At the end of one of the days, we were listening altogether to the songs we recorded so far and started “dancing”, one after the other. We were so tired but so excited that we didn’t even noticed that the producer was recording a video of us headbanging and jumping. It took us around 4 days to record all the vocals, we were really well trained and perfectly aware of what to do, so we had the possibility to take some moments of relax and fun.
How has the overall response been so far from music critics and fans on the two released songs?
I’m really satisfied about the feedback we had so far. The songs work well, and old friends and fans have been surprised and happy for the genre and our approach. New fans are more and more excited each time we release a new song.
Could you tell us something about the lyrics on the album?
The lyrics want to tell stories in a way that fits the musical current and hide a deeper metaphoric meaning. Despite the “epic” titles and themes (kings, swords and monsters) you can fit the song in your everyday life, the battles and the struggling we face in life.
Who’s idea was it to use the screams on The Shieldmaiden?
It was Federico’s idea to add them, since the very first incarnation of the project. You will hear some more screams and growls along the whole album. We wanted to use all the vocal shades we had at disposal in the band.
Sometimes i hear tiny bites of death metal influences in the music, am i right?
Of course you are! There are a lot of Scandinavian metal contaminations, especially taken from bands who were living their golden age between the end of 90’s and the beginning of 2k’s. This because we grew up listening to them, they gave us a strong imprinting during our youth.
After the release date, will Frozen Crown go on a tour or something like that?
We will see, we are already evaluating some proposals and ideas!
With which band would you like to go on tour with? And to which countries?
Of course we would really love to go on tour in Northern Europe, where our genre has a huge following. I personally would really like to tour with Epica which is one of my favorite bands ever 🙂
How did the name of the band come about?
We wanted our band’s name to sound strong, epic and regal at the same time, and to be able to bring to mind an icy / snowy scenario to the listener. We also wanted the name to be pretty straightforward and easily understandable to any people having a basic english knowledge, so we kept it pretty simple and unsophisticated.
When did you started with singing and why did you wanted to sing?
I have always singed, my first solo live performance dates in 1991, when I was in kindergarten:) I was always playing with toy guitars, toy keyboard and flute, until my parents sent me to a proper music school. I took my first vocal lessons when I was around 14 years old and I also started singing with my first band.
Do you have any practices to keep your voice in good condition?
Yes, of course. I practice around 1 hour 2 or 3 times a week. I have my sequence of technical exercises and usually a list of songs that I feel comfortable with (Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation etc), then when I feel that my voice is properly “set” I train with my band’s stuff.
Thank you for answering, any last words?
